Bio

Dorothy M. Kaspar, 88, of Taylor passed away peacefully in Granger March 19, 2010. She went to be with the Lord whom she faithfully served her entire life. Dorothy was the baby of three girls born to Frank and Minnie Balusek Oct. 28, 1921. She laughed that she got out of certain farm chores by being the youngest. Doing, Serving, Giving - anyone who knew Dorothy witnessed her tireless efforts for others. After retiring from Montgomery Ward, she began volunteering in the community. Dorothy loved the privilege of helping others. She brought food to the home bound for many years. Volunteering at local rest homes, she became known as the "Marshmallow Lady." Residents looked forward to receiving prayer, graham crackers and marshmallows. Dorothy made many friends helping at Vincent de Paul, as well. Many handwritten prayers were found in her Bible that she used for the Tuesday prayer group that met in her home. Dorothy touched so many lives in the community with her kindness and giving spirit. Dorothy's ministry included crocheting doilies, sewing lap covers and Baptismal bibs. This was a joyful pastime for her as she was blessed to bless others. As an active member at St. Mary's Church, she helped make the Host and led Rosary many times. Her loving spirit made her a wonderful counselor. During the last few months, she was so thankful and appreciative for the overflowing display of love. She modeled for everyone how to live and die with grace. She was preceded in death by husband Emil Kaspar; parents Frank and Minnie Balusek; and sisters Wilma Marek and Elsie Walker. Dorothy is survived by great niece Penny Yarbrough and husband Randy of Hurst; great nephew Todd Smith and wife Gaby of Irving; great nephews Sol Smith and Kevin Smith of Tyler; cousins and countless long-time friends. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 23 with Rosary at 7 p.m. at Condra Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 24 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Msgr. Lonnie Urban Officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Condra Funeral Home.
