Bio

Mary Josephine "Jo" Stevens, 82 passed away May 4, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Jo was born in Houston, Texas to Elizabeth and G.L Jackson on December 8, 1934. She was an active and loyal member of South Main Baptist church until moving to Corsicana, Texas in 1979 where she then became an active member of First Baptist Church. Jo adored children, and volunteered her time as a CASA advocate for children. She taught first grade Sunday school as well as public school for decades at multiple campuses, including Drane Intermediate School from 1981 until her retirement. Jo lived life to the fullest. She was always ready for an adventure and loved to travel, particularly when given the opportunity  to experience nature's beauty. Always young at heart, some of Jo's favorite hobbies included swimming every morning, biking with friends, hiking, reading, following her favorite sports teams, particularly that of her alma mater, Baylor University, and spending time with her family and pets. She is survived by her beloved husband, John Stevens, sons, Randy Stevens, Scott Stevens and wife Robin, daughter, Kristen Knutson and husband David, grandchildren, Lindsey McCartney and husband Ethan, Dylan Knutson, Logan Stevens and wife Ashlyn, Jack Knutson, and Sage Stevens, sister, Betty Ross Preisler Kelley and husband James. Visitation will be held in Corsicana at Griffin-Roughton funeral home on Sunday, May 7, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. Services are Monday, May 8, 2017 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Corsicana.
