Johnnie Ruth "GranJohn" Johnson was born July 10, 1934 in Taylor, Texas and died suddenly Sunday, March 28, 2021. She was the only child of M. E. "Shorty" and Eleanor Balko. Johnnie is survived by sons Mitch Kropp and wife Linda, Hoyt Johnson and wife Lisa, Jason Johnson, and John Johnson; daughters Cynde Sill and husband Jim, and Denise San Luis and husband Ramon; son-in-law Randy Knowles, daughter-in-law Rita Johnson, best friend Peggy Gentry, her sweet dog Josie, as well as many other dear friends. She also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, to whom she was their beloved GranJohn. She was preceded in death by her parents Shorty and Eleanor, husband Jerry, daughters Gena Slone and Kim Knowles, and son Blake Johnson. Above all else, Johnnie loved her LORD and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a longtime member of Texas Oaks Baptist Church and one of her passions was raising money for missions. She was also a true lover of people and made friends everywhere she went. She valued fellowship, looked forward to her weekly cards and dominoes nights, and still kept in touch with many of her Taylor Ducks high school friends. Johnnie's smile and humor were delightful, and everyone who knew her was touched by her joy, open heart, and generous spirit. Her passing has left an enormous chasm in our lives. A Memorial Service celebrating Johnnie's life will be held at Texas Oaks Baptist Church in Austin on Saturday, April 10 at 2:00pm. Austin American-Statesman April 3 through April 4, 2021
