From Taylor Daily Press obituary: Howard Kelm, 79, of Thorndale, Texas, died Thursday, June 24, 2004, in Taylor. He was born at the Hare community Feb. 20, 1925, the son of Bertha (Newman) and Paul Kelm. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Thorndale VFW and an associate member of the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department. On Nov. 28, 1950, he was married to Celestine Matysek. Since 1953, he had been a resident of Thorndale, where he was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Until his retirement, he was employed as a crane operator at ALCOA for 31 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife, Celestine Kelm of Thorndale; daughter, Janice Kelm of Kingwood; son, Wayne Kelm and wife Rita of Beyersville; sisters-in-law, Anita Matysek, Carolyn Wycliffe of Noack; four grandchildren, Chris Kelm and wife Nicole, Greg Kelm and wife Lesley, Jeffrey Kelm, Stacy Baker and wife Suzanne; four great-grandchildren, Shelby Boysen, Libby Baker, Madison Kelm, Brandon Lewis; and special family friends Carter and Syd Thornton of California. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Condra Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, June 27, at Condra Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Tietz officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Pallbearers are Chris Kelm, Greg Kelm, Jeffrey Kelm, Stacy Baker, Jimmy Guthrie, Larry Shiller, Kevin Kelm and Vernon Grieger. Honorary pallbearers are Vernon Reimer, Robert Hegar, Zip Rutledge and all his hunting buddies. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice. Arrangements entrusted to Condra Funeral Home, Taylor, TX.
