Bio

Anita Clark Poole passed away at 8:11 PM, Wednesday, May 14, 2008 in a local care facility. She was born on June 22, 1911 in Singer, LA to Joseph and Sarah Hollingsworth Clark. She had one brother and one sister, one half sister and two half brothers on her father's side. Anita was the beloved wife of Jake Weldon Poole, Sr. of Starks. They married on November 14, 1931 and lived in Port Arthur, TX from 1933 until 1961 when Jake retired from Gulf Oil Refinery. After retirement, they moved to Starks where they lived until 2001, before moving to Lake Charles. Anita was a wonderful homemaker, wife, and mother. She was a self-taught woman who could sew a dress, cut out a pattern, and make one just like it. She upholstered her own living room furniture several times. She crocheted and quilted beautifully, made all kinds of jelly and preserves, helped her husband to raise big gardens and Satsuma's, and she loved to hunt and fish. Her biggest pride was her children and grandchildren. Anita is survived by all of her children, Geraldine "Gerry" Little of Port Arthur, Jake "Buddy" Poole, Jr. and wife Sharon of Starks, Joseph "Joe" Poole and wife Frances of Dayton, TX, and Betty Miller and husband Alfred of Lake Charles; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-four great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren; one sister, Fannie Lasseigne of Lafayette and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost seventy-five years, her parents, three grandsons, a brother, a half sister, and two half brothers. Her funeral was at 11 AM, Saturday, May 17, 2008, at the First Baptist Church of Starks. Reverend Robert Davis will officiated. Burial followed in Miller Cemetery in Starks. Visitation was from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM today May 17, 2008, with a scripture service at 6:00 PM with Deacon George Carr officiating. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Resthaven Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Dr. Sylvia Boyer, and Bright Bridge Hospice Care. They helped make it possible to care for their mother and father and provided professional support in a kind and caring manner day and night.
