Bio

Heinrich P. "Henry" Penner was born February 5, 1823 to Peter Penner and Sara Duerkzen. He married Agnetha Kliewer in 1951. They had six children born in South Russia. He died May 15, 1898 and is buried in the Bethesda Cemetery at Henderson, Nebraska. The children of Heinrich and Agnetha Penner are: 1 Heinrich "Henry Penner 1854-1928 2 Jacob Klaus Penner 1860-1929 3 George Penner 1865- 4 Cornelius T Penner 1866-1927 5 John Henry Penner 1869-1942 6 Frank Carl Penner 1874-1954 The Penner and Kliewer families left Russia on June 24, 1875 and traveled to Antwerp, Belgium where they boarded the State of Nevada and departed for America on a thirteen day voyage across the Atlantic. Arriving in New York August 4, 1875, they obtained train passage from New York and arrived in Nebraska on August 9, 1875. Once they decided to settle in Nebraska, they couldn't settle in York County since the homesteads and other land was already taken, so they went about 10 miles further to the northwest, mostly among the Lutheran people in Hamilton County where Hampton and Sutton are. Since most of the government land had already homesteaded, the settlers purchased land from the Union Pacific Railroad for about $2.65 an acre.
