Alvina 'Toni' Martin March 7, 1926 ~ March 26, 2024 RAPID CITY - Alvina 'Toni' Martin, 98, died Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Westhills Village Health Care. Alvina Eloise Tonack was born on March 7, 1926, in Greenwood, Nebraska. She was raised by her parents George and Cecelia (Nitz) Tonack on a farm, during and through the dirty 30s, and depression era. She graduated from high school, and escaped home life to the big city of Rapid City, South Dakota. After graduating from National College in 1944, Toni worked for a brief time helping to organize the university's files. She married George Theodore Martin in 1946 and they raised two daughters, K & P. Toni held positions at the Rapid City Journal, National College, and in a CPA firm over the course of her long career. Toni's primary career was with Norwest/Wells Fargo Bank as an Assistant Trust Officer for 23 years. Toni volunteered with a number of civic organizations, including the Rapid City Arts Council, First United Methodist Church, BH Master Gardeners, Club for Boys, Youth & Family, The Journey Museum and many others. She supported the BH Playhouse, BH Concert Series, Black Hills Symphony and more. Toni was a major supporter of the BH Rails to Trails to construct the Mickelson Trail. Toni appreciated the amenities of Westhills Village, living in a villa for several years before moving to the main facility Courtyard and Health Care, in her final years. She was generous to her church and community non-profits, including Boys Club, Youth and Family, SD Public Broadcasting, Cornerstone Mission, Nature Conservancy, Westhills Village Foundation, BH Playhouse, The Dahl Fine Arts, and numerous others. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 1, 2024 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Memorials in Toni's name may be made to the Westhills Village Foundation.
