Bio

Mildred Kathleen Shavlik passed away March 11, 2008, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee due to a brief illness. Mildred was born January 24, 1921, in Spencer, SD and later moved to Sturgis, SD in 1926. She married Emil Shavlik on February 12, 1945. She served as a cosmetologist until children entered their lives, then she became a full time homemaker. Her husband's occupation with the Corp of Engineers took the family to various locations, which led them to several states, until retiring to East Wenatchee, WA in 1980. With each change of location, her first activity was being affiliated with her church. She enjoyed singing in the choir and served as a deacon upon occasion. She enjoyed gardening, golf and being a homemaker, best of all. She was a member of the First Methodist Church and the Leavenworth Golf Association. She is survived by her daughter, Trudy Sandland; and sons, Ron and wife, Marj, Roger and Richard Shavlik; and grandson, Nathan Sandland. Preceding her in death was her husband, Emil; her parents; brothers, Olin and Allen Matkins; sisters, Valeda Matkins, Dorleen Wood and Lola Geisler. She also leaves a number of loving nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 14, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 941 Washington Street, Wenatchee, with a reception to follow. Burial will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis, SD. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice, the First United Methodist Church, or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
