Bio

In the early 1800s, Benjamin and his first wife lived in Jones County, Georgia near his Uncle John Stripling, and his cousins. One of those cousins, also named Benjamin Stripling, was born 1790, and he married Sarah Ward in 1812. Many researchers have confused them and another cousin named Benjamin Oliver Stripling, born 1788, son of his Uncle William. The name of his wife, the mother of his children, is unknown; however, it is evident from his 1820 Census in Jones County, Georgia, that she died before then, as he was a single father with their four teens. His cousin Benjamin born 1790 was also living in Jones County, along with his wife Sarah and their four young children. Benjamin remarried by 1826 to a lady named Mary Polly, and the family relocated to Crawford County, Georgia. The 1830 census shows that his son John lived nearby with his new wife and children. His son Thomas' new family went to neighboring Monroe County. His daughter, Tempy, remained in Jones County. Benjamin was still in Crawford County for the 1840 Census, and his sons Abner and Thomas were both living near him. His son John may have still been in Crawford County as he paid property taxes there in 1840, but no census can be found for him. Their records at Mount Paran Primitive Baptist Church show that Mary Polly died in July 1847. He, then, married Temperance Jackson Hancock on November 14, 1848. By 1850, Benjamin and Temperance had relocated to Kemper County, Mississippi with Abner and family. Thomas remained in Crawford County, but John moved to Laurens County, Georgia. Benjamin died after 1850 and his wife Temperance then returned to Georgia, and Abner's family moved to Texas. ~~~~~~~~~ As a descendant of Benjamin Stripling Jr, I show many DNA matches that I have analyzed and documented to ancestors through his mother Jane Bryant Stripling.
