Bennett Emerson Massey, age 81, of Lubbock, Texas and formerly of Morton, Texas, died Saturday, January 20, 2024 in Lubbock. He was born February 18, 1942 in Morton, Texas to Bennett E. and Opal (Heflin) Massey Sr. He married Christie Hons in Clovis, New Mexico on November 16, 1970. There was no harder worker than Bennett Massey. He was an all around cowboy, and no one could tame a horse like him. He had a great way with all animals. Bennett was a heck of a cotton ginner. He was also a great storyteller, and always had an "Uncle Henry knife" in his pocket. Bennett loved his family, and especially his grandkids. He was always there for his kids and grandkids. Bennett's favorite phrase, when he was with his kids was "Don't tell your mother!". He is preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Jo Massey; his parents; and a sister, Betty Gilliam. Bennett is survived by his wife, Christie; his three sons, Bennett Massey Jr. and his wife, Diane of Taylor, Texas, Kenneth Massey and his wife, Michele of Lubbock, Texas and Shane Massey and his partner, Mike Tamasi of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a sister, Prissy Crook of Morton; his seven grandchildren; and his eight great-grandchildren.
