Charles "Chuck" Ekeler, age 80, of Valley, Nebraska passed away on January 24, 2024, at home surrounded by family and his loyal Goldendoodle, Aurora. Chuck was born on July 28, 1943 in David City, Nebraska. He is survived by his wife, Jan; children: Amy (Nikole), Mark (Jennifer), and Chris; grandchildren: Madison, Emerson, Aiden, Hunter, Kegan, Grace, and Tenley; siblings: Bob (Deanna), Jack (Judy), Carol Kirby (Dan), Steve, Jim (Janelle); many nieces, nephews, and friends. Chuck is proceeded in death by his parents Dr. Louis and Mary Ekeler; and brother Bill. Chuck received his undergraduate degree at Creighton University. He was an avid learner and earned multiple master's degrees. He worked in education (SPED, School Psychologist, Director of Guidance, and College Professor) before moving into Human Resources. He retired from the Gallup Organization. Chuck was a family man. He spent most of his free time on the water! He was an avid water skier and shared that passion with his children, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He loved lake living and jet ski/boat rides with his bride of 54 years. Chuck was always active in supporting his family in all their activities. Traveling was a passion, and he explored many states and countries. Whenever he could tow his camper, he would. He loved to spend his winters in Arizona where he played shuffleboard and hosted many happy hours. Chuck was a man of God. He embraced his faith daily. He started and ended each day with prayer. When he visited Rome, he made a trip to the Vatican each day. Sundays were a day of God, regardless of where he was. Chuck's love and light were felt by family in friends each day in simple tasks. He found joy in being present for others - grilling, watching sports (hockey, dance and football), taking walks with his wife and spending quality time with loved ones. He was a sounding board for many. Chuck's family and friends will remember him forever as being a peanut butter eating, kind and loving man of God. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 29, 2024 at 10:30am at St. John's Evangelical Church at 307 E Meigs Street in Valley Nebraska with Fr. Tim officiating.
