Gertrude Janda, age 88, of Bellville, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024. Gertie, as she was lovingly known by family and friends, was born in Weimar, Texas on October 24, 1935, the seventh of eight children born to Frank and Annie Horak. Gertie is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years and love of her life, Vit Janda; her parents; six of her siblings; granddaughter, Regan Schmidt; great-grandson, Hudson Marek; and her daughter-in-law, Shirin Wright. She is survived by sister, Anna Mae Hajovsky of La Grange; her six children (and spouses), Mark Janda, Patti Schmidt Robinson (Wes), Ken Janda (Tracy), Susie Marek (Barnell), JD Janda (Nancy), and Angela Langan (Larry); fourteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Gertie Janda lived in Bellville for more than sixty years where she was active in Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Community as a choir member, reader, and eucharistic minister. She supported the various PTAs and booster clubs of her children's activities and volunteered at the Bellville Hospital. After her sixth child enrolled in college, Gertie became a Mary Kay consultant and served her clients for more than forty years. The family likes to say that she sold "more than lipstick" as she always took the time to listen to her clients. She lovingly recruited, trained, and formed a team of Mary Kay sales consultants, and became a Mary Kay Sales Director. She led her unit with a fun, light-hearted approach, and always offered encouragement and assistance to the consultants. Her caring and giving attitude resulted in great success in the Mary Kay organization, qualifying for 21 career cars, most of those being the signature Mary Kay pink Cadillac. Gertie was beloved by her family, her many friends, and the community. She was known for treating everyone with kindness and compassion, and for tirelessly supporting her husband. Gertie cared deeply about people and took joy in getting to know them. She easily opened her heart to others and stood by others with encouragement and prayers in times of trouble. Her greatest pride was her family, and she proudly shared stories about the family with her many friends. She embraced her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with love and took an active interest in each of them. She was at her happiest surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 1st, from 5 to 7 pm, followed by a vigil/prayer service from 7 to 8 pm, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 936 South Front St., Bellville, Texas. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 am on Friday, Feb. 2nd, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, followed by a lunch in Fuchs Hall, adjacent to the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Knesek Family Funeral Chapel, 842 E. Main St., Bellville.
