Bio
Mary Zahn Fischer passed away peacefully January 16, 2024 at the age of 89. She was born August 1, 1934 in Floresville, Texas to Leo Zahn and Stella Mazac Zahn. Mary was a waitress from the early age of 13 until she retired at the age of 65. She began work at The Busy B Café, then Skarkes and finally P & T. She loved to work outside in her garden and flower beds. She also raised chickens, rabbits and calves. She was most proud of her family and looked forward every year when she and her sisters would get together for a "Sisters Day". Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Stella Zahn; son, James Fischer; son-in-law, David Rethaber; daughter-in-law, Mary Weaver Fischer; brother, Leo Zahn, Jr.; sisters, Adela Felux, Stella Foerster, Annie Tkodlec; great-granddaughter, Carol Rethaber; and longtime companion, Adolfo Leal. The family would like to thank New Century Hospice and Floresville Residence and Rehabilitation for their compassionate care of our mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. A Visitation will be held on Monday, January 22, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville, Texas. A Rosary will be recited there at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held the following day on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville, Texas.
