Molly Ann Richman Schmidt January 28, 1948-November 29, 2024 Molly Ann Richman Schmidt of Jones Creek, Texas went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, November 29, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Molly was born on January 28, 1948 to Sid and Irma Richman in Angleton, Texas. In 1952 the family moved out to the Richman ranch near Palacios, Texas where she learned the love for animals and country living. After graduating from Palacios High School in 1966, she attended Wharton County Junior College, and then to Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville, Texas, earning her Bachelor of Science in Education. She went on to earn her Master's in Education from Houston Baptist University. Her first year of teaching was in her home town of Palacios in 1970. Her father was gravely ill so she applied there to be able to help her mother with the care of Sid and her little sister Susan. Molly married the love of her life John Schmidt, on March 12, 1970. They had a ceremony at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Palacios and a ceremony at Wagner General Hospital in her daddy's hospital room so that he could be a part of and witness her getting married. There was not a dry eye in the whole hospital that day. For the next 29 years Molly taught first grade at Sweeny Elementary in Sweeny, Texas. She was a devoted educator during her teaching career and was an inspiration to her students and colleagues. Molly and John made their home in Jones Creek. They loved spending time with friends and family at their property on the Brazos River and at the Richman Ranch on the Tres Palacios River. She enjoyed attending her class reunions and re-connecting with her lifelong Palacios friends and classmates. During her retirement years she enjoyed leisurely days with John, taking trips with her sister, Susan and her Aunt Dixie. One highlight of retirement was being able to spend time with her great nephew, Landry and was instrumental in teaching him to read. Molly was a devoted wife, sister, aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband John, her parents, and her beloved dogs, Snoopy, Lady, Cody, and Little Bit. She is survived by her sister, Susan Barber of Sweeny and John's siblings, Bill Schmidt (Ginger), Don Schmidt (Jana), Sue Pennock (John), and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and a great nephew. Pall Bearers will be Cole Barber, Bryan Barber, Kevin Barber, Michael Richman, Don Schmidt, and Lee Barber. Honorary pall bearers are John Pennock, Phill Richman, and Bill Schmidt. There will be a visitation on Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 6:00-8:00 and a funeral service on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Stroud Funeral Home, Clute, Texas. Burial will follow at Gulf Prairie Cemetery, Jones Creek, Texas Officiated by Pastor John Price In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to SPCA of Brazoria County, 141 Canna Lane, Lake Jackson, Texas Obituary written with love by Molly's sister, Susan. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tribute to Molly Ann Richman Schmidt from PHS Class of 1966 Good Afternoon, I am Helen Dolezal, Molly's classmate & friend. Other classmates in attendance are Joe Kana, Andy Jensen, Charlotte Jensen, Gary Rodgers, along with my brother Billy & Gary's wife, Cassandra. Molly and I started school together, riding the same school bus as we both lived in the country. Molly was an excellent student; her senior year, she was selected as Senior girl with best sense of humor. She was a member and officer in the Future Teachers Association; she always knew she wanted to be a teacher. In our class yearbook, the seniors had their pictures and a quote above their picture. Molly's quote was IF EVER I AM A TEACHER, IT WILL BE TO LEARN MORE THAN TO TEACH. How appropriate that is for Molly as she was an outstanding educator for 30 years, with her first year of teaching in Palacios and 29 years at Sweeny ISD. She married her loving husband, John and they had 53 wonderful years of marriage. John fit right in with our class, attending all our class reunions. Molly and he graciously opened up their Richman Ranch home on the Tres Palacios river for several of our reunions. Molly always wanted to have a special cake made for our reunions, so on our 50th reunion which was a biggy reunion, we didn't have 1 cake; we had 2! Molly always was an optimist and a perfectionist, with a loving smile on her face. Thank you, Susan, for doing such a wonderful job with Molly's services. The obituary you wrote was outstanding. I can just hear Molly saying, "Susan, you did good!" I know she is looking down on us today from her heavenly home, now reunited with her beloved John and her loving parents, Irma & Sid. God bless you, Molly. We love you and we will miss you! Tribute by Helen Dolezal, friend & classmate of Molly's, written with love
