Bio

Joseph "Uncle Joe" Monroe Woods, 84, of Brookshire, Texas, passed away at his home on October 8, 2021. Joe was born March 19, 1937 in Pawnee, TX, to Irvin Allen and Grace Victoria (Decas) Woods. He grew up and attended schools in Kenedy and Hearne, TX. On June 21, 1957, Joe was united in marriage to Ina Barnett in Hearne. From 1955 to 1963, Joe proudly served as a Corporal in the Texas National Guard. Joe and Ina also lived in Houston and Atlanta, GA before making their home in Brookshire in 1989. During his working years, he was employed as a supervisor at a drywall company. Joe also worked for Williams Insulation in Houston for 12 years as a dispatch supervisor. In 2001, Joe left Williams Insulation to manage the Brookshire Quick Lube, owned by his nephew, Gary Woods, for 14 years before retiring. He served as a deacon at First Baptist Church Brookshire for many years. Joe was a hugger! It didn't matter if you wanted one or not, you were getting one! He loved spending time with his family. Joe also enjoyed dancing, hunting, riding motorcycles, and traveling in their motor home. He is survived by his wife, Ina Woods of Brookshire; sons, Clay Woods of Brookshire, and Jeff Woods and wife, Vickie, of Katy; grandchildren, Nicole and Courtney Woods, both of Lake Charles, LA, Janae Teague of East Bernard, and Preston Woods of Richmond; great-grandchildren, Amaya Lawrence of Lake Charles, LA, and Levi and Dagen Teague, both of East Bernard; brother, Randy Woods and wife, Joyce, of Deer Park; nieces; nephews, and friends too numerous to count, but he loved them all. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Grace Woods; sisters, Margaret, Dolores, Nona, and Blanche; and brother, Lloyd. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, November 4, 2021, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at Schmidt Funeral Home, 819 Waller Ave., Brookshire, Texas. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 5, 2021, at 10:30 AM at First Baptist Church of Brookshire, 106 Waller Avenue in Brookshire. Burial will be in Woods Cemetery in Yorktown, TX. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to First Baptist Church Brookshire, PO Box 190, Brookshire, Texas 77423; or Alzheimer's Association, Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter, 6055 South Loop East, Houston, Texas 77087-1005; or the charity of their choice.
