On January 6, 2024 Sharon passed away surrounded by family at the age of 89 after battling acute leukemia. Her wish was to spend Christmas in her home with family and she did! Her son Mark and his family spent Christmas in Kennewick with Sharon - people, presents and prime rib; just how she wanted it! Born in Columbus NE, Sharon lived in Nebraska most of her early life . She attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln where she earned her Bachelors degree in teaching and began her teaching career in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Sharon married Bill DeWulf February 15, 1958 in Lincoln Nebraska. Bill was transferred to Slayton Mn where 4 of their 6 children were born. They then moved to Sioux Falls, SD where the last 2 of their children were born, followed by a move to Omaha, NE and finally Kennewick, WA. Once they settled in Kennewick, Sharon went back to teaching at Kennewick HS. where she taught Consumer Ed and Home Economics and later headed the department and received the Teacher of the Year Award. Her cooking classes were very popular and when she ran into students years later they reminisced about what they had learned in her classes. She was very active in St. Joseph Catholic Church in CCD, prayer groups, Bible studies, dinner group, and the capital campaign for the new church. Sharon was an avid gardner growing fruit, flowers and vegetables, active in her local and state garden clubs, holding several local and state offices. She was also a prolific quilter and seamstress having made over 100 quilts along with several bridesmaid dresses, her children's clothing, Halloween costumes and exquisite Barbie clothes. She loved cross stitch, embroidery, and needle point. She was an active grandmother and great grandmother, making a baby sampler, baby blanket and quilt for all 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She participated in bridge club, craft club, a retired teachers group, and her Tri-Delta sorority among other activities. Sharon often contributed exhibits to the county fair from her garden and quilting winning several ribbons. She found time to help with Girl Scouts, make craft projects with her "crafty ladies" group, make dandelion wine, she canned vegetables, always had a freezer full of harvested fruit and a pantry full of homemade jam. She made wall hangings, table runners and placemats for every season. Each summer she and Dad packed up the station wagon with 6 kids and the dog and headed to the family cabin on Round Lake, Mn where they spent most of the summer. She attended her children's and several grandchildren's sporting events and school activities. She was a Seahawks fan and flew her 'Hawks' flag proudly! Sharon is survived by her children, Julie Beck, Gretna, NE and son Nick Dan DeWulf, Charlotte, NC and his children Brad (Kourtney,) Matt (Jess); Amy and Steve Hane, Littleton, CO and children Erik (Jessica) Melanie, Brandon; Carrie and David Irving, Hayden Lake, ID with children Bethany (James), Luke (Megan), Steven; Mark DeWulf, Odessa, WA with children Jacob (Sydney), John, Katie (Kenton) Tim; and Mike and Ronda DeWulf, Park Rapids, MN with children Clayton, Jack, Luke, and Liddy along with 3 great grand children and her sister in-law Joan Kayton (Omaha NE). We thank you all for coming as you all were very important in her life. If you wish to give a memorial contribution we suggest St. Joseph Catholic Church or Tunnels to Towers, two of her favorite charities.
