Tommie Smith, 94, passed away January 5, 2024, in Austin, Texas after a short battle with dementia. She was born on September 22, 1929, to Horace P. and Edith Olive Caldwell (Brown) in Bryson, Texas. Services will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Chapel of Coker Funeral Home in Jacksboro, Texas. A visitation will be held immediately following the service, Tommie will be buried in Cottonwood Cemetery in Bryson, Texas. Tommie married the late Paul W. Smith on May 29, 1948, in Bryson, Texas. They made their home in Jacksboro for 36 years before relocating to Austin, Texas. Tommie is survived by daughter Edie Heuss of Canyon, Texas. She is also survived by grandsons Ben Heuss and Chris Heuss and wife Ashley, and great-grandsons Gavin and Rhys Heuss and great-granddaughter Rylee Heuss all of Austin, Texas. Tommie was predeceased by her husband Paul, son Gary Paul Smith, and sisters Gioneth (Caldwell) Howard and Johnnie Marie Caldwell. The family requests that people make donations to the Cottonwood Cemetery Association C/O First National Bank, P.O. 339 Bryson, Texas 76427, or the Jacksboro Volunteer Fire Department Stocking Fund at P.O.
