Bio
Don Earl Wirthlin, 93, passed away peacefully on Dec. 21, 2023 surrounded by his family. By happy coincidence, he died exactly 20 years, to the day, after his wife Melba Jean. They were married for 52 years. Don proudly served our country in the US Navy. During the Korean War, he served in The South Pacific on an aircraft carrier. Upon his return, he married Melba Jean Brown, and they had 5 children. Together, they started a dump truck business, which evolved to an excavation company. Eventually, Don worked with his sons for about 25 years. He was an accomplished driver, operator, mechanic, welder and fabricator. He retired when he was 80. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 1 sister, 1 grandchild, 1 great grandchild, and 1 great, great, grandchild. He is survived by his children, Donna (Mike),Janice, Scott (Kathi), Colleen, and John(Milinda), and 18 grandchildren,39 great grandchildren and 11 great, great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at The Abbington of Murray, for the loving care they gave Dad in his final days. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 11:00 - 12:20 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Funeral Home, 4760 South State Street, Murray, Utah. Graveside services will follow the viewing at Murray City Cemetery at 1:00 pm, 5490 South Vine Street, Murray, Utah. Published by Deseret News from Dec. 26 to Dec. 27, 2023.
