Dorothy had an older sister, Evelyn (Barnett) Shely and a younger brother, Dee Barnett. She graduated from Marathon High School in 1950 and moved to Hamilton, Texas with her family shortly thereafter. She worked for the telephone company, as a cafeteria cashier at Bryan Adams High School, at the Sears warehouse, and at the Hypermart Superstore until her retirement. Dorothy was very active with volleyball and basketball in high school; in her later years, she was active at the Harry Stone Center with senior activities such as line dancing. She loved to sew and make clothes for her children and she also enjoyed embroidery. Dorothy went on golf trips with her husband and members of the North Texas Senior Golf Association. M.A. and Dorothy also enjoyed going to the casino and spending time with family. Dorothy was a loving grandmother (Nana) to Malyssa and Alexandra and great-grandmother to Luke. She passed away on December 18, 2023 at Faith Presbyterian Hospice. Dorothy and M.A. were married for 71 years.
