Gail Nelson May 6, 1938 — December 18, 2023 Gail Catherine Nelson, age 85, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, in Englewood, CO. Gail was born in Perkins County on May 6, 1938, and resided in Perkins County her entire life. She and her twin brother Gary Charles were the second and third children of Charles and Helen Andersen Hilferty. Gail attended Madrid Consolidated Schools and graduated with the class of 1956. After high school, she moved to Denver and attended Saint Anthony School of Nursing. After completing nurse training, she returned to Perkins County, began her career with Perkins County Community Hospital, and continued working there for over fifty years. Gail was married to Keith Nelson in 1958 and was married for sixty-two years. Two sons Martin (Lori) of Denver, CO, and Dennis (Julie) of Lincoln, NE, were born to this union. Survivors include five grandchildren: Andrew (Hadley), Tyler (Erin), Travis, Troy (Kelsey Bohling), and Trina (John Popple), sisters Marian Glunz (Bill Robertson) of Elsie, and Sharon Day of Madrid and brothers Gary Hilferty (Karen) of Grant, NE, and Lyle (Wyvonne) Hilferty of Limon, CO. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Kaye Mankhey of Lincoln, NE, and Lynda Hilferty of Madrid, NE. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, her in-laws, Frank and Helen Nelson, a sister, Dona, a brother, David, and nephews Tom Hilferty and Rob Mankhey. A memorial has been established in Gail's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at bullocklongfuneralhome.com, where services will be streamed live. Services will be on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 1 pm at the Grant E-Free Church with Pastor Russ Gaar officiating. Interment will be in the Madrid Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, from 4 pm until 7 pm, at the Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant. Bullock-Long Funeral Home of Grant is in charge of arrangements.
