Charlie McLendon Dies Wednesday At Mings Chapel Charlie I. McLendon, 84, retired farmer of Mings Chapel, died early Wednesday morning, Feb. 28, at 12:55 o'clock at his home. Born in Macon, Ga., May 11, 1866, Mr. McLendon had been a resident of Upshur County for 64 years, coming to Graceton when he was 21, and later moving to Mings Chapel. He joined Glade Creek Baptist Church as a young man. He was married to Miss Abbie Wood Jan. 22, 1889. She preceded him in death Sept. 15, 1896. His second wife was Miss Sallie Craig, whom he married Jan. 22, 1898, and who survives his death. Other survivors are four sons, Ed of Mings Chapel, Earnest of Ft. Worth, Foy of Sand Hill and Glee of Mesa, Ariz.; three daughters, Mrs. E.C. Palmer and Mrs. Johnnie Cox, both of Mings Chapel, and Mrs. Russell Shumate, Gilmer; 34 grandchildren; 17 great grandchilddren; one brother, John McLendon of Sasser, Ga.; one sister Mrs. Kittie Pate, Ashford, Ala.; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were to be held from Glade Creek Baptist Church at 3 o'clock this afternoon (Thursday), with the Revs. Obie Baker, Ed Speir and Eugene Worley officiating. The Owen Quartet was to be in charge of music. Interment was to be in Morris Cemetery, under direction of Croley Funeral Home. The following were named as pallbearers: Don, Cleburne, DeRoyce, Billy, Jerry Lynn, E.C. and Doyle McLendon, and Glenn Pahner.
