AZLE-Juanita ("Nita") Autrey, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 2, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Nita was born June 17, 1934 in Mansfield, Texas to Samuel and Stella Choate. Nita's father was a farmer and later became involved in carpentry. Her mother was a homemaker. Nita's early years were spent helping local farmers with their farms. The family also traveled to Arizona for work, picking cotton for a season before moving back to Smithfield, Texas where she grew up. She received her GED and graduated from Brantley-Draughon Business College. She married her husband, O.S. Autrey in June of 1954. She worked briefly at LTV and then retired from a career in the banking industry. Nita loved being a wife and had a lot of hobbies that included being a guitarist, singer, gardener and decorator. She loved playing guitar and singing in a bluegrass band for many years. She and O.S. spent many years attending bluegrass festivals around Texas. Nita also loved to travel. She loved her many nieces and nephews like they were her own children, was a tremendous support to them as they grew up and also as adults. Nita loved her church family at Open Arms Fellowship Church of Azle, where she was a member. Nita had a host of lifelong friends including her best friend, Audrey Carter. Nita was preceded in death by her loving husband, O.S.; parents, Samuel and Stella Choate; sister, Sammie Evans, and brother, Lee Choate. Family left behind to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews, Diane Speir (Philip), Clifton Evans (Susan), Ronnie Evans (Donna), Janice Hansen (George), Cynthia Wilson (Duston), and numerous great nieces and nephews. Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, 2023 in Mount Olivet Chapel in the Breyley Suite. Funeral Service: 12 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2023 in Mount Olivet Chapel.
