The Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent, Tuesday, 21 October, 2014 FULLERON — Jerome Julius Grzywa, 64, of Fullerton died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Fullerton. The Revs. Richard Whiteing and Don Cleary will officiate. Military rites by Fullerton Legion Post 151 at the church. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a Scripture service at 7 followed by a rosary by Holy Name Society, at Palmer Funeral Home in Fullerton. "Jerry" was born Sept. 18, 1950, to Julius and Catherine (Badura) Grzywa in Genoa. Jerry attended elementary school at Fullerton and St. Peter's Parochial School. He graduated from Fullerton High in 1968. Following graduation, Jerry enlisted in the United States Army and was deployed to Okinawa, Japan, in 1970. Jerry served with D Company 1ST Batallion Signal Corps. Jerry was a part of the USASTRATCOM OPNS BE USARYIS: 1970 to 1971. Once discharged, Jerry graduated from Reisch Auction School in Mason City, Iowa, in 1971. Jerry worked part time doing auction calling and full time at Ma Bell. He married his wife, Regina "Deb" (Szatko) Grzywa, on May 24, 1975, at Clarks. Jerry and his wife lived in St. Paul from 1975 to 1976. In 1976, Jerry moved his family to Fullerton, where he joined his father, Julius, and uncle, Ed Grzywa, in the family construction business. Jerry later received his journeyman's electrician license. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, making wine, spending time with family and friends. Jerry was an avid gardener and he enjoyed sharing his produce with family, friends and neighbors. He served on the Fullerton City Council for many years. Jerry was a member of American Legion Post 151. Survivors include his wife, Regina "Deb" Grzywa of Fullerton; two daughters, Brenda (Andrew) Hills of York and Jennifer Herroon of Lincoln; a son, James (Kiley) Grzywa of Fullerton; nine grandchildren; three sisters, Janet Johnson, Betty (Joe) Grzywa and Patty (Tim) Ossowski, all of Hastings, and a brother, Tom (Deb) Grzywa of St. Louis, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Leo Szatko; his mother-in-law, Betty Szatko; and a brother-in-law, Chris Powers. He was also preceded in death by a special aunt, Mary Ellen Badura, and several uncles.
