Cooper, James M. Jan 26, 1878 - Feb 24, 1953 Pensacola Journal, Wed., Feb 25, 1953 Cooper Services Scheduled Today Former Councilman Dies at His Home Funeral services for James M. Cooper, former city councilman and commissioner for Escambia County will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Waters and Hibbert Chapel. Mr. Cooper, a county resident for 50 years, died Tuesday at his home, 511 North J St. Talbert F. Vaughn and J. C. Hollis will officiate at the funeral. Burial will be in Bayview Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers listed: Pallbearers will be Frank Bonifay, Charlie Bonifay, Arthur O Merritt, Eddie Lewis, Vernon Nelson and Henry Nelson. Mr. Cooper, a native of Rosenton, Ala., retired as a joiner at the Naval Air Station in 1940 after 20 years service and was elected city councilman in 1941. That same year he was appointed county commissioner by Gov. Spessard L. Holland, and elected in 1942 to the position which he held for 10 years. Mr. Cooper is survived by his wife, Mrs. Katie Cooper; a daughter, Mrs. R. C. Johnson; three sons, German, Earl and Clarence Cooper; two sisters, Mrs. Etta Gulledge, Robertsdale, and Mrs. Alice Strickrodt, Loxely.
