Died at age 81. Claude was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during World War II (1939-1945). THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE. World War II, also known as the Second World War, was a global war that lasted from September 1, 1939 through September 2, 1945, though related conflicts began earlier. Married Madelyn Elaine O'Hara on April 16, 1951. Claude C. Baker, 81, of Hurricane, Utah, passed away December 13, 2002.He was born July 15, 1921 to Charles and Pearl Baker of Blanket, TX. He graduated from high school in Blanket and worked as a lineman for Western Union for several years. Claude served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a tail gunner on a B24. His plane was shot down during a raid on the Polesti oil fields in Austria and he was captured by the Germans and held as a prisoner of war for approximately one year. He received the Purple Heart, Air Medal, Bronze and Silver Star, Good Conduct Medal, various campaign citations and the POW Medal. He married his wife, the former Elaine O'Hara of Evanston, WY, April 16, 1951. He is survived by his wife; two brothers, Wm. Jack Baker of Bluffton, SC, and Warner Baker of Huntsville, TX; two special nephews, George Becker of Hurricane, and Jon O'Hara of Visalia, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
