Bio
Norma Jean West passed away the morning of Monday, September 25, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loved ones having attained the age of 69. She was born October 5, 1953, in Richland, Missouri, the daughter of Joe Raymond Nelson and Delphia (Oliver) Nelson and grew up attending school in Richland. Norma was hardworking, beginning at an early age. She worked for General Dynamics, as a pipefitter on Nuclear Submarines. In 1981, Norma moved back to Richland in 1982. In 1982 she met Kenneth Adrian West. The two married in October of 2001, in Sleeper, Missouri, where they made their home for many years. The two were committed to one another and shared nearly twenty-two years together before Norma's passing. God blessed their home and lives with four children that were greatly loved. Norma and Kenneth moved from Sleeper into the Phillipsburg area about three years ago. Norma enjoyed many things in life; technology, history, and her dogs. However, family meant everything to Norma, and she especially loved spending time with each and every one. Norma is survived by her husband, Kenneth West of their home in Phillipsburg, MO; four children: Tim Nelson of Lebanon, MO, Dennis Hill of KC, MO, Gary West (Samantha) of Richland, MO, and Candy Hagge (Richie) of Lebanon, MO; 6 grandchildren: 11 great-grandchildren; one brother: Mike Nelson (Mary Ann) of Richland, MO, and one sister: Pauline Daniel (Phillip) of Cartersville, GA; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many special friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Shirley Clines and Kathy Nelson, one brother: Jerry Nelson; one grandson, KJ Mosier, one great-grandson, Dawson Henderson. While there is great joy in knowing with confidence that she is complete in Heaven, Norma Jean will be greatly missed by those she loved and who loved her. Services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 29, 2023, at Grace Baptist Church of Richland with Pastor Tony Shaw officiating. Recorded music selections included Alan Jackson's Gospel songs, "In the Garden," "Precious Memories," "I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You," "Amazing Grace." Family and Friends served as pallbearers. Burial followed in the Barnett Cemetery, Laclede County, Lebanon, Missouri. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Norma Jean (Nelson) West and may be left at the Memorial Chapel of Richland.
