Bio

December 14, 1916 - April 5, 2006 Leonard Valentine Weidner died peacefully at home while watching a Rockies ball game and wearing his Rockies shirt. He was 89 years old. Leonard was born to Ann and Theodore Weidner on December 14, 1916 at the family farm in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. He was one of eleven children. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen, his children, Donna Mae Clark (Rick), Sharon, Charlene (John Lindstrom), Gary (Deanna Jenne), Rick (Kazuko) and Randy (Karen). He was loved by his grandchildren, Jacob, Natalie, Taylor, Katie, Sarah, Alanna, and a great grandchild, Amber. He attended Arlington Heights High School. Leonard served his country in World War II in the 36th Armored Infantry. He was awarded a Purple Heart for being wounded in the line of duty in France and Belgium. He met Helen Dreiling at a polka dance and they married in 1946. Leonard was employed as a bottler at Bornhoff Dairy. They settled in Arlington Heights, IL in 1952. These busy years were spent raising his vegetable garden, fruit trees, and children. After his retirement in 1970, Len and Helen moved to Colorado Springs. Here he was employed as a maintenance worker for Ent Air Force Base. Helen and Len spent every Saturday night at the International Polka club, enjoying their heritage. A final move was made to Grand Junction in 2001 where he enjoyed helping his children in the peach orchard, Palisade Cafe, and in any way he could be of service. Leonard was active at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church and found solace in his faith. He loved all things living, his family, plants, and animals and found great joy in the simple things in life. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 10th at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Building Fund.
