Funeral services for Michael W. Smith will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at Bowers Funeral Home in Teague. Interment will follow the services at Shanks Cemetery near Kirvin. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. Mr. Smith passed away suddenly on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at his residence near Buffalo. He was born in Pasadena on November 14, 1957. Michael graduated from Pasadena High School with the class of 1975 and immediately went to work for the Shell Oil Refinery. He spent his entire working career with Shell and was trained as an E.M.T. and also had electrical training for his job. Mr. Smith worked as an operator and later in the Environmental Safety Division where he retired as supervisor. He met his wife, Angie, at work and the couple married on December 20, 1980, and shared over forty-two years of marriage together. Michael loved hunting and fishing, and taught his children to do both. He was also active in his kid's little league sports and volunteered his time to coach. Mr. Smith was a member and former President of the Elk's Lodge #1832 in Pasadena. He is survived by his wife, Angie Flex Smith of Buffalo; two daughters, Wendy Smith Wassel & husband Greg of Houston, and Stephanie Smith Wood & husband Chad of Wortham; one son, Thomas Smith & wife Kelley of Pearland; six grandchildren, Caleb Wassel, Thane Harrison, III, Dean Harrison, Jonathan Wood, Jake Smith, and Garrett Smith; one sister, Glenda Foreman of Deer Park; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, Aldrice & Ruby Smith; two sisters, Elaine Hunter and Elizabeth (Cissy) Nichols; and his brother-in-law, Ted Foreman.
