Anchorage Daily News December 16, 1996 Clara M. Spaulding, 52, died Dec. 14, 1996, at her Trapper Creek residence. Memorial services for will be conducted at 5 p.m. Tuesday at St. Philips Catholic Church in Trapper Creek. Additional services will be at St. Ignatius Mission in St. Ignatius, Mont., at a later date. Burial will be at St. Ignatius Cemetery in St. Ignatius. Mrs. Spaulding was born on Jan. 28, 1944, in St. Ignatius and came to Alaska in 1982. She was a homemaker all of her life. She enjoyed quilt making and was Trapper Creek Outstanding Citizen of 1991. According to her family, ''Clara inspired many with her physical and spiritual strength. She supported Trapper Creek Community with much hand work and countless quilts donated for various events. She's been a backbone for St. Philips Catholic Church, clergy and the congregation. Most importantly, Clara was a caring and devoted mother, wife, and homemaker. Her memory and colorful creations will bring us strength and happiness for many years to come.'' She is survived by her husband of 30 years, John of Trapper Creek; sons, Jim of Trapper Creek and Joe of Wasilla; daughter, Wendy Spaulding of the US Naby Seabees in La Maddalena, Italy; sisters, Betty Taczek of Missoula, Mont., Judy Bilile of Ronan, Mont., and Marian Leishman of Bozeman, Mont.; and many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be directed to St. Philips Catholic Church Building Fund, c/o Mike & Sheryl Uher, Box 13377, Trapper Creek, AK 99683.
