Bio

Durwood Belmont Greene Durwood Belmont Greene, 76, of Houston died Saturday, July 15, 1995. Mr. Green, the son of Nathaniel Jackson and Elizabeth Bain Green, was born on November 5, 1918, in Briggs, Texas. After 30 years of service with Brown & Root, Mr. Greene retired and founded the Durwood Greene Construction Company in 1968, and he was presently serving as its Chairman of the Board. He was a member of the Houston Contractors Association, the Associated General Contractors of Texas, and the Texas Hot Mix Asphalt Pavers Association. Mr. Greene received numerous honorary degrees from Texas A & M University and the University of Texas at Austin. He will be remembered for his involvement in community activities and for his support in the Ft. Bend County Livestock Show & Rodeo, which he was a member of. Mr. Greene was a longtime rancher and enjoyed spending time at his ranch in San Marcos. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Miriam Alderman Greene, and his son, David B. Greene. Mr. Greene is survived by his son, Scott Greene and wife, Lynn, Jeff Greene and wife, Vicky, Ricky Greene and wife, Monica; grandchildren, Christina and Jonathan Greene, Sarah and Devon Greene, Brad, Daniel, and Elizabeth Greene; and sisters, Mary Jo Pearson, Natalie Asher, and Dorothy Parsons. Friends may call at Geo. H. Lewis & Sons 1010 Bering Drive after 12 Noon Monday, where the family will be present from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., Tuesday evening, July 18, 1995, to receive friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, 1995, in the Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons. Interment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemeter. For those desiring, the family requests that memorials be made to the Ft. Bend County Fair Association Endowed Scholarship Fund, or the Court Appointed Special Advocates.
