Bio

Morris Colcord LeFever was born in Bridgeport, Nebraska on September 21, 1933, to Ethel May (Austin) LeFever and Floyd Frank LeFever. He died in Springfield, Oregon on August 15, 2023, at the age of 89. Mr. LeFever served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Oregon State University in 1964. He retired from the Department of the Interior's U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1994 after 35 years of federal and military service. For the bulk of his career, he was a manager of National Wildlife Refuges in Utah, Nevada, Texas, Oklahoma, Washington, and Oregon. As a manager of National Wildlife Refuges, he was required to enforce fish, wildlife, and refuge regulations, carrying a badge and firearm for 25 years. In the 1970's Mr. LeFever was involved in The Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act and the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act which set aside 97 million acres for federal Refuges in Alaska. After retirement he started Habitat Services, Wildlife and environmental consulting business. He married Susan Rachel Swink on December 7, 1963, in Lebanon, Oregon. As a member of Hermiston's Stage-Struck Theatre Group, he appeared in 11 plays. After retirement he wrote several murder mysteries for dinner theatre to benefit Agape House, directing, casting, and appearing in all. Mr. LeFever was active in Hermiston's Tumbleweed Toastmasters and in Hermiston's Rotary Club. He was also a board member of the Umatilla Basin Watershed Council. He enjoyed family, family reunions, hunting, and sculpting. Morris did genealogical research tracing on his maternal side to England and paternal side to France, both into the early 1600's. Survivors include his wife Susan, brother David LeFever, sisters Elaine "Lainey" Dancer and Annette Martinez, daughters Marsha Dorr and Michelle Hendrix, sons Patrick Wood, Lance LeFever and Michael LeFever, 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Interment will be a Powell Cemetery in Berlin, Oregon (Linn County). The date and time are yet to be determined.
