From Powell-Gabel Funeral Home, Topeka, Kansas: Janice Jean Sutton, 81, of Hoyt, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023. She was born May 24, 1941, in Franklin County, Iowa, the daughter of Russell and Gail Irene (Shepperd) Dockhorn. She graduated from Comstock High School in Comstock, Nebraska in 1959. She continued her education at Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska, graduating in 1963. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping. She also served as a Den Mother in Cub Scouts and was the group leader with Campfire Girls. She worked as a nurse in various places in and around the Topeka and Grand Island, NE areas. Janice enjoyed baking and quilting. With the quilts she made, she would turn around and donate them to various charities. Family meant a lot to her. She enjoyed going to her children's and grandchildren's activities. She was a faithful member of Christ's Church in Hoyt until it closed doors in 2022. She was in charge of the children's church. Janice married Ronald Wayne Sutton on December 1, 1963 at Trinity Methodist Church in Grand Island, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on September 15, 1988. She is survived by her children, Kenda (Greg) Porter, Tal (Clarissa) Sutton, Nyle (Kathi) Sutton, and Neale (Patricia) Sutton; grandchildren, Cody (Amanda) Porter, Cory (Stephanie) Porter, Alex Sutton, Meaghan Sutton, Kyle Sutton, Hannah Sutton, Russ (Jaelyn) Sutton, Amanda Sutton, Elizabeth Sutton, Abbie Sutton, and Ryan Sutton; great-grandchildren, Abigail Porter, Caleb Porter, Blake Porter, Hazel Porter, and Maeve Porter; brother, Glenn (Marilou) Dockhorn and sister, Charlene (Victor) Green. Janice was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, Darren Dockhorn and daughter, Ronda Sutton who passed in 1977. A Celebration of Life will be at 2:00 pm., Saturday, April 15, 2023 at the Penwell-Gabel - Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka. The family will greet friends an hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at Hillside Cemetery in Wolbach, Nebraska.
