''''''''''''''''''' The Schuyler Sun (Schuyler, Nebr.), April 21, 1983, p. 7B, col. 2 Funeral in California for Lillian Svoboda The funeral of Howells native, Mrs. Jerry (Lillian) Svoboda, 73, of San Diego, Calif., was held Saturday at a Catholic church in Pacific Beach. Interment was in a San Diego cemetery. The sister of Mrs. Fred Blum of Howells died April 13 at a San Diego hospital after a long illness. The daughter of Frank and Mary (Evert) Karel was born Jan. 1, 1910, in the Tabor locality in southeast rural Howells. Her education was received in a rural school. She was employed as a clerk at the Richard Petricek Grocery Store in the Tabor community. She and Jerry Svoboda were married Nov. 24, 1937, at St. Leonard's Catholic Church in Madison. Afterward, the couple lived in Omaha where Mr. Svoboda managed a fruit and grocery store in South Omaha for two years, before moving to San Diego. There, he managed a greenhouse and nursery until retirement. Mrs. Svoboda belonged to the Catholic church and the parish ladies society. Survivors include the husband of 1251 Law Street, San Diego, Calif., 92109; a son and two daughters, Marvin Svoboda, Mrs. Francis (Margie) Steffen, and Mrs. Michael (Lorraine) Golightly, all of San Diego; seven grandchildren; a brother, Frank Karel of Buhl, Idaho, and the sister, Mrs. Fred (Wilma) Blum of Howells. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Mayme (Ruzicka) Sisel and Mrs. William (Mildred) Schlautman Sr.
