Bio

Theresa M. "Peggy" Settles died July 4, 2023 in Bellevue, Nebraska. She was born December 31, 1935 in Wahoo, Nebraska. Peggy was raised on a farm in Valparaiso, Nebraska and the daughter of Vincent Votava and Mary (Urbanek) Votava. She went to the University of Nebraska and received a teaching certificate for grades K-8. She taught at various one room schoolhouses in Lancaster, Saunders, and Butler Counties. She met Delbert when he was in the Air Force stationed in Lincoln, Nebraska. They were married at Sts. Mary and Joseph Church in Valparaiso, Nebraska. She was a loving, incredibly patient and tolerant wife and mother of six children. During the first years of marriage, she worked for Russell Stover Candies in Lincoln, Nebraska and then Hercules Trouser Co. of Columbus, Ohio. After that she was a homemaker. When the kids were raised, she worked parttime as a cafeteria worker for Council Bluffs Community Schools and then as a Children's Librarian at the Carter Lake Public Library. She was always active in church activities having been on the Parish Council, a CCD teacher and an officer of the Ladies Guild at Our Lady of Carter Lake Church. In her retirement years she did volunteer work for the library and loved to read books and could always be found reading in her lounge chair or napping in her lounge chair with a book in her hands. Peggy was preceded in death by daughter Cheryl Decker.
