SHINER: Dorothy Marie Patek, 82, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 28, 2023 surrounded by her family. She was born November 26, 1940 in Gonzales County to Frank and Agnes (Janca) Picha. Dorothy graduated from Shiner High School in 1959 and married her beloved Eugene Patek on June 16, 1962. They spent the next 61 years as best friends and partners, raising their eight children and helping with grandchildren. Dorothy was a devoted mother, cooking, cleaning, sewing, gardening and making sure everyone knew how loved they were. She was a great cook and always made "more" to share with friends and neighbors. She and Eugene were active members of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church and the choir. They worked hard and sent all eight of their children through Shiner Catholic School. Dorothy's health began to fail and she lived by her faith that her Lord would carry her through the difficult times. May she rest in peace. Survivors are her husband, Eugene Patek of Shiner; their eight children, Eugene "Bo" Patek of Alabama, Laura Sciba (Bruce) of Shiner, Carol Pope (Steve) of Flatonia, Sarah Liere (Neil) of Schulenburg, Doug Patek (Laura) of Cuero, Steven Patek (Lesa) of Minnesota, Patrick Patek (Melissa) of Victoria, Kim Ezeani (Jeffrey) of Kingwood; 17 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters; sister-in-law, Mabel Picha of Pasadena. Preceded in death by her parents; daughter-in-law, Pamela Patek; two brothers, Jerry Picha and Raymond Picha. Visitation 4 to 6 p.m., with Rosary recited at 6 p.m., Sunday, July 2, 2023 at Thiele Cooper Funeral Home, 361-293-5656. Funeral Mass 10 a.m., Monday, July 3, 2023 at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church with Rev. Bryan Heyer officiating. Burial to follow at SPJST Cemetery in Shiner. Memorials may be given to Sts. Cyril Catholic Church or Catholic School or Hospice of South Texas. Arrangements by Thiele Cooper Funeral Home, 361-293-5656.
