Eugene "Gene" Alfred Schiller, 81, of College Station passed away Thursday, June 15, 2023. Visitation will be from 5 to 8PM Thursday, June 22 with a Rosary at 6PM in the chapel of Trevino-Smith Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass is set for 10AM Friday, June 23 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in College Station with Father Will Straten officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Bryan, TX. Born January 25, 1942, in Temple, Texas, Gene is the son of William Gus and Agnes Ann (Janacek) Schiller. Gene was quite a character; mischievous and always quick with a smile, kind word, or humorous story. He provided love and laughter for his family and enjoyed his work and customers at the post office. As a strong believer in our Lord Jesus Christ, Gene instilled the value of family, hard work and encouragement to always keep trying. He was an active member at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman and served 5 years in the Texas Army National Guard. He was a member, instructor, and mentor of the Brazos County 4H Sportsman Club and an active member in the American Legion Post 159. He retired from the US Postal Service in 2003 and operated several small businesses. Gene served as a Bryan reserve police officer as well as a reserve Constable for Brazos County. He retired from 30 years of volunteer law enforcement service in 2019. His parents, Will and Agnes, and brother, William Steve Schiller, precede him in death. Gene leaves behind his loving wife of over fifty-nine years, Bernice Schiller; two daughters, Connie and her husband Patrick Smotek and Cynthia Schiller Geiermann; son Kevin and his wife Karen Schiller; as well as a sister, Alexine Burke; and four grandchildren: Sarah, Samuel and Jacob Schiller, and Casey Schiller Painter. The Schiller family would like to thank Dr. Braden and Dr. Culver and staff, Traditions Healthcare, and all those who provided care for Gene during his illness. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Rock Steady Boxing, St. Mary's Building Fund, or the charity or organization of your choice.
