Aunno was a daughter of Samuel Otto Sterner & Clara Lillie Knudsen. Her father Samuel Sterner, our Great-Granddad, died in a drowning accident in 1966. Her sweet mother, our Great-Grandmother Clara Lillie, succumbed to gallbladder cancer in Feb 1939. Aunno & Wylie Franklin Richards (1904-1990) eloped on May 27, 1928 in Decatur County, Kansas. They had three children. Donna Jean (Robinson) (1929 - 2015), Gerald William, Richard Wylie (1939-1983). They relocated first to Temple City, CA and then to El Monte, CA in 1940 +/-. Wylie (aka "Grampy") added a huge family room/living space onto the back of their small house. This would come to be the family gathering spot for decades throughout the years. With it's St. Augustine grass in the front-yard that made walking on it nearly impossible, to the softer lawn in the back where games of Bocci Ball, homemade ice-cream, and sounds of 10 granddaughters could be heard screaming and having fun. There was the infamous lemon tree in that backyard.. Grampy tried everything to kill it, including burning the thing down. Much to everyone's surprise it rose from the ashes and went on to produce wonderful lemons for generations to come. Their love of travel cannot be ignored. They had a travel trailer and took dozens of trips with Aunno's brother/wife (Orval & Eva) and Aunno's sister/husband (Merle & Kenneth). They would often meet up with members of Wylie's family who were also avid travelers and boaters. One trip I remember well was to Cottonwood Cove in Nevada. Uncle Bob Richards brought his boat and we got to go out fishing on it. I was no more than 10, and my sister 8. It was a wonderful weekend getaway. After Wylie's death in 1990, Aunno went to live with daughter Donna in Altadena, CA and then to an assisted living building where she would live out her remaining few years.
