Bio
Betty E. Klaus, 91 of Glen Carbon, IL, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2023, at Eden Village. Betty was born November 21, 1931 in Granite City, IL, the only child of John and Udora (Behen) Barks. On October 28, 1950, she married Howard L. Klaus of Granite City, IL. Howard and Betty were blessed with two sons. Betty was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She spent the first part of her life as a homemaker taking care of her two sons. After Howard's retirement, Betty enjoyed spending the Winter months with her husband in southern Texas and traveling, especially cruise vacations. She worked part-time at the Fun-N-Sun resort in San Benito, TX for several years. Betty enjoyed volunteering with Howard at many Fun-N-Sun dance hall events. Notably, Betty and Howard loved to dance and did so even into their later years at the admiration of the nursing home health care staff. She enjoyed singing, making crafts, crocheting, fishing, camping, playing dominoes and pinochle, and spending time with family. Betty was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star of Illinois (Edwardsville Chapter 667). She was also a member of Eden United Church of Christ where she sang in the choir for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; parents, John and Udora Barks; her son, Brian W. (and daughter-in-law Evelyn (Nochta)) Klaus; and great-grandson, Gregory Sill. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Memorial Estates Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL.
