Estel C. "John" Hogan of Scio died of cancer Saturday at his home. He was 71. Mr. Hogan was born Aug. 12, 1918, in Arpalor, Okla., the son of George and Maggie Hogan. He married Arliss E. Stewart Dec. 13, 1942, in Garden Home, Ore. She survives. He served in the U.S. Army in Portland and in the Philippines during World War II, as a member of the 29th Photo-mapping Engineers. He moved to Idaho in 1947 to be a farmer. He moved to Prineville in 1967 and to the Scio area to continue farming in 1968. He loved farm work. Mr. Hogan retired in 1978. Surviving besides his wife are two daughters; two grandsons, a granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Scio IOOF Hall. [Albany Democrat-Herald, Tuesday, July 17, 1990]
