Bio
Kenneth Ray Johnson of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away on May 26, 2023. Kenneth was born August 8, 1934 near Sumner, Nebraska to Raymond Leroy Johnson and Minnie Ethel (Potter) Johnson. As a young boy, his parents were looking for work and ended up in Washington state picking apples. After the season, they returned to Nebraska and started farming. Kenneth graduated high school in Eddyville, Nebraska. He then spent six years in the army, then attended the Nebraska State Teachers College in Kearney, Nebraska and graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts in Education. He then started a career teaching and was an educator in several small towns. Following his teaching career he decided to try something else and was a manager at a Sherwin Williams paint store. Kenneth was married to Beverly Ann Mills on October 12, 1957. During their marriage they had two children, Deborah Lynn Hilliard and Terry Lee Johnson. The couple enjoyed their time together whether at home with their pets, in the garden, drinking iced tea on the patio, or inside watching Husker volleyball or football. Grandpa enjoyed hands-on projects, completing many updates to his home inside and outside by himself. Outside their home, they worked side-by-side nearly every day. The couple owned and operated a T-shirt screen printing business for almost 25 years. Their first business location was a Kiosk space in the Imperial Mall in Hastings Nebraska, where they got their business up and running. For a short time after this they had their business in Grand Island, Nebraska at the Conestoga mall. Their next location would be in Lincoln, Nebraska where they started in downtown Lincoln in the Centrum Mall and before they retired together their last location and the one their granddaughter Jaymie remembers the most was in Gateway Mall! Over the last several months Kenneth has enjoyed learning Spanish, while keeping in touch with Dessi, an exchange student our family hosted in 2004. He considered her his granddaughter and her daughter Martina a great granddaughter. Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Deborah Lynn Hilliard of Overton, Nebraska, his son, Terry Lee Johnson (Patty D'eak) of Portland, Oregon, granddaughter, Jaymie Lynn Hilliard of Kearney, Nebraska, brother, Marvin Lynn Johnson (Sharee Johnson) of Custer, South Dakota, and numerous nieces and nephews. Kenneth joins his wife, Beverly Ann Johnson of Lincoln, Nebraska, parents, Raymond and Minnie Ethel Johnson of Eddyville, Nebraska, grandson, Christopher Lee Hilliard of Ogallala, Nebraska and sister Joy Ann Reed of Omaha Nebraska. The Nebraska Cremation Society in Wahoo, Nebraska is in charge of the arrangements.
