Earl Ray Buckner May 21, 1928 - May 26, 2023 Earl Ray Buckner, age 95, of Hewitt, was born May 21, 1928, in Waxahachie, Texas and passed away peacefully on Friday, May 26, 2023, with his loving wife, Peggy by his side. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas and Annie Lee Buckner; and 6 brothers and sisters. He was a 1946 graduate of Sunset High School, in Dallas, Texas. After high school, he played professional baseball in the Texas League. He then started his 44-year career in the transportation industry and retired from Plantation Foods in 1994, after 18 years of service. During retirement, he enjoyed his various outdoor activities, reading and time spent with family, especially his grandchildren. Earl is survived by his wife of 70 years, sons, daughter-in-heart, 5 grandchildren, great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to express much love and appreciation to Earl's recent caregivers Dr. Singh, Erin, Tammy, Kimberly and Barbara. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 3, at 10 a.m., at Chapel Hill Memorial Park, 7671 S I-35, Robinson, Texas 76706.
