Bio

Orval Glenn Blankenship passed away peacefully on May 22, 2023 at the age of 91 and went to be with the Lord. Orval was born May 19, 1932 in Sherman, TX to Olen and Lillian Blankenship. Orval was raised and graduated from Sherman schools. After graduation, he joined the United State Air Force in February 1951. He flew B29's and performed electronic counter-measure (ECM) operations and was with the Strategic Air Command (SAC) flying combat missions over Korea as a Staff Sergeant before receiving an honorable discharge in 1955. Upon returning home, he married Janice Catherine Fisher on Sept. 4, 1954 at East Sherman Baptist Church in Sherman, TX. They had recently celebrated 68 years of marriage before her death last year. In 1955, Orval went to work for the Federal Aviation Agency. He became an air traffic control team supervisor at Love Field and DFW Airport before retiring in 1977. Orval and Janice lived many years in Richardson, TX, working and raising their family before moving to the countryside of Van Alstyne in 1987. Orval served as an active deacon and choir member at the First Baptist Church of Van Alstyne for a number of years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping and watching basketball and football on TV. He loved the kids, grandkids and the times they spent together. He felt like he was giving them good advice all the time and trying to set a good example. He is survived by his sons Bradley Glen (and wife Gina) and Greg Alan (and wife Leanne). Grandchildren are Cally Marie and husband Bill Miltenberger, Craig Joseph Blankenship, Jill Elise and husband Jimmy Hyten, Clay Hunter Blankenship and wife Danielle. Great grandchildren: Sophia Elise, Molly Mae, Glory Ann, William Henry (Billy), Lila Rose, Claire Hope, Crew Hunter, Samuel Ray, Hunter Louise. He is preceded in death by his wife, Janice Catherine; sons, Gary Lynn and Ray Lee; father and mother, Olen and Lillian, and brother; Gerald Lynn. Services will be held Tuesday, May 30th at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Van Alstyne, 121 E. Marshall St, Van Alstyne, TX 75495. Family will gather at the church at 10 am. Family may also attend, as you are able, a graveside gathering at the Garden of Gethsemane at 2:45 pm located at Restland Cemetery, 13005 S. Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243. In lieu of flowers, donations to the First Baptist Church of Van Alstyne is our dad's wish.
