Bio

Mr. Sherman Dewey Ard June 7, 1936 - May 18, 2023 On May 18, 2023 Sherman Ard entered the kingdom of heaven. Sherman was born June 7 1936 in a yellow house in Robertsdale, Alabama to Glenn Duane Ard and Verda Mae Ard. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Shirley, his brother Curtis, and his son Carl David. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susan, his sons Clay and Drew, his wife Kristen his two grandsons Andrew and Charlie. Sherman learned the value of hard work from his grandfather, who was a truck farmer. Sherman often talked about washing turnips in the creek while it was snowing. But it was picking okra 28 days in a row that led him to the army recruiting office. The only opening they had was for paratroopers. He told the recruiter that he had never been in an airplane and they probably wouldn't want him, but they assured him he was exactly who they wanted. After spending two years in the army he moved to Dallas, Texas, where he lived until returning to Alabama in 2005. In Dallas he was the successful owner of the Sherman Ard and Son Wall covering Company. His great loves were in order his family, ice cream, the Dallas Cowboys, horse racing and more ice cream. Since moving back to Alabama he became a backyard farmer and dabbled unsuccessfully, some say, in blueberry wine making. As for football, he rooted for Alabama and Auburn, but during the Iron Bowl he favored Alabama. Sherman was a loving, funny and giving man. If you knew him you will miss him. We certainly will.
