Gertrude Emma (Gertie) Halcie Blanche Vergil Jarrarah Molly was thrown from a horse while taking lunch to thrashers in the field. The lunch whistle spooked the horse. She was pregnant and died from complications of a miscarriage. Franklin Democrat, Friday, 9 August 1901, pg 4 Mary Elizabeth, daughter of Sarah and Nicholas Groseclose, was born Sept. 13, 1866 near Providence, Johnson county, and died Aug 2, 1901 at the age of 34 years, 10 months and 19 days. She was married Oct. 28, 1885, to Willis Bailey [sic-Baley]. To this union was born eight children, seven of whom survive their mother. She was converted to the Methodist faith during the winter of 1899, in a meeting conducted in the Brown school house by Rev. Shuler. She joined the M.E. church at New Harmony in 1900, being one of its charter members. She has lived a devoted life both to her husband and children and to her Master. She was a kind an obedient daughter, a loving and trusting wife and an affectionate mother. May the love and mercy of the Heavenly Father be very near to the widowed mother and brothers and sisters, and His especial blessings rest upon the bereaved husband and motherless children. May this be a tie that will bind many hearts to God and toward the heavenly land, and may children never resist the beckoning hand of a mother, but live in hope of meeting her when life is ended. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Shuler, August 4, at New Harmony, after which the remains were interred in the Bryant cemetery to await the resurrection morn. A FRIEND.
