She was born on September 29, 1958, in Pensacola, Florida, to William Franklin Peterson and Myrtle Ethel Dunn Peterson. Her family moved to Chipley, Florida, in 1969, and she lived there until she graduated from Chipley High School. She then joined the Navy and served for two and a half years. She met her husband, Robert "Bob" Taylor, while they were both in the Navy. Since he continued to serve in the Navy and then in the Coast Guard, she lived in a number of places including Key West, Cape Canaveral, San Francisco and Mobile. In 1998, she and Bob settled in Milton, building a house next to her mother and father. She held various jobs throughout her life but her favorite was as an Exceptional Student Education teacher assistant at Pea Ridge Elementary. She loved teaching reading. Barbara was the second-born of three children, Brenda Peterson Mercado and Larry Dean Peterson (deceased). She was married to Robert Taylor for 42 years. She was the mother of Joshua Taylor who is married to Amy. She leaves behind a special sister-in-law, Sheri Taylor, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss her dearly. Barbara was a warm and friendly person. She made friends easily wherever she went. If someone needed a place to stay, she welcomed them into her home. She enjoyed shopping and finding unique items in thrift stores. She was a good cook and would experiment with recipes making them her own. She loved visiting Bob's side of the family in California. She had a beautiful singing voice. She loved going barefoot. Barbara Taylor will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2020, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 25, 2020, at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel, with Dr. Michael Wiggins officiating. Burial will follow services in Serenity Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made, in Barbara's memory, to your local animal shelter.
