Bio

Dr. James Kenneth Wood, Jr., 88, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2008, in Houston. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at Pines Presbyterian Church, 12751 Kimberley Lane in Houston. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 10, at the Oakwood Cemetery in Waco, under the direction of the Brazos Funeral Home. James Kenneth was born in Hubbard, Texas, to the late Lyda Kate (Cheney) Wood and James K. Wood, Sr. He was the grandson of Dr. and Mrs. W.A. Wood. James graduated from Corsicana High School in 1937. He went to Baylor University in 1942, and was in the Baylor Medical Class of 1946. He interned at Kansas City General Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., and was a flight surgeon in the U.S. Air Force from 1947-1949. In 1946, at a Nurses' Home Dance, he saw Ruth Henry across the room. He always said, "God said, 'There she is.'" They were married in 1948, and celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary this past December 5th. James practiced ENT in Waco and in Houston. After moving to Houston, the family joined Tallowood Baptist Church, the church in which Ruth and Kenneth raised their three children. For the past 20 years, they have attended Pines Presbyterian Church, where they have many wonderful friends. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Henry Wood, of Houston; his son, Bill Wood and his wife, Kaye, of Oklahoma; daughters, Lauren Rottet and Lynda Wood; grandchildren, Kyle and Evan Rottet and Rayanna and Ryan Wood; sister, Lyda Lynn Bussey-Marchman, of Dallas; niece, Lynn Bussey; nephew, Lelland Bussey; great-niece Lauren: great-nephews, Dan, Jim and Bob; great-great-nephew, Bob's new baby, Miles.
