Nicholas DeYoung passed away on Monday, March 3, 2008, at Jefferson Healthcare at the age of 92. He was the beloved husband of the late Lyvon Gill DeYoung and the late Ruth Jennings DeYoung; father of the late Darlene DeYoung Booksh and her husband, the late Norman Booksh. He was the grandfather of Andrew Booksh (his wife, Beth Booksh), of Charlotte, N.C., Ruth Ann Booksh Lynn (her husband, the late Shane Lynn) of Lincolnton, N.C., and Catherine Marie Booksh Gerald (her husband, Rick Gerald) of Fort Mill, S.C. He was the great-grandfather of Ethan, Steven and Julia Booksh, Christopher, Samantha and Joshua Lynn and Nicholas E. and Eva Gerald. He was the son of the late Rev. Peter DeYoung and Hazel Butler DeYoung, of Hamshire, Texas; the brother of Ruth DeYoung Bedell, of Victoria, Texas, and Eunice DeYoung McMahan of Whitney, Texas; brother-in-law of Reba Gill Roberts (her husband, Raymond Roberts) of Brookhaven, and Betty Mullen of Reno, Nev. He is also survived by many relatives and friends. Mr. DeYoung was a native of Hamshire, Texas, and a resident of River Ridge, La., for the past 46 years. He retired from the United States Navy as CWO4 after serving 30 years. He was in World War II and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was a member of the Temple Lodge No. 7, Astoria, Ore., and a 32nd degree Mason in the New Orleans Scottish Rites bodies. Relatives, friends of the family, members of Rio Vista Baptist Church, Riverside Baptist Church, Pearl Harbor Survivors and TROA (The Reserve Officers Association) are invited to attend the funeral service on Friday, March 7, 2008, at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., near Clearview Pkwy., in Metairie at 1 p.m. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
