Funeral services for Arlene Harris, age 92, of Lincoln, Nebraska formerly of Spencer, Nebraska, will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, March 23, 2023, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Spencer. Pastor Glen Stahlecker will officiate, with burial in Union Cemetery in Spencer. Arlene died Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Bryan Medical Center West in Lincoln. It was a clear October day in the northwest bedroom of her grandad, John Hafsaas' homestead soddy house that he built, that Arlene Elizabeth Hafsaas was born on October 27, 1930. At that time, her mom and dad, Carl J. and Stacie A. Hafsaas, lived on the homestead. Arlene was the youngest of nine children. At the age of seven, she and her parents moved to Bristow. She received her education in a one room schoolhouse. Arlene helped her mom run the café and spent her spare time riding horses. Arlene met her husband, Howard Harris, at a dance in Lynch. They were married at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church on June 30, 1951. To this union, were born four children, Jeanette "Jeanie", James "Jim", Dianna, and Danny "Dan." Arlene was well loved in the community as well as in the nursing homes. She enjoyed working with animals, gardening, was an exceptional carpenter, and would drop everything to be with her children or grandchildren. During her 20 plus years working at Wm. Krotter Company, she was well sought out as a problem solver and was always ready with a fix for some hardware that no longer worked the conventional way. Due to her failing health, Arlene was forced to retire and moved to Lincoln and live on her own. This allowed her to spend more time with two of her children and grandchildren that lived in Lincoln. All of her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. As her health declined, Arlene moved to Lexington Assisted Living Facility; and eventually to Sumner Place, which she considered home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; daughter, Dianna Huetig; her parents; Howard's parents; and all siblings from both sides of the family.
