Edith Nepper, 83, of Schuyler passed way on Monday, February 20, 2023 while visiting her daughter in Florida. Edith's body has been cremated and a service will be held in Schuyler. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Schuyler. Visitation will be Monday, March 13 from 5 until 7 p.m. with a parish rosary recited at 7 p.m. all at the church. Inurnment will be Tuesday at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery with a lunch following in the St. Augustine's Social Hall. Edith A. (Novotny) Nepper, born July 14, 1939, entered into eternal rest February 20, 2023. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend. Edith was raised on the family homestead in rural Colfax County. She was baptized and confirmed in Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson. She graduated from Clarkson High School in 1957. She earned her Teaching Certificate from Wayne Teacher's College and taught school throughout Colfax County. On Tuesday, May 19, 1959, Edith married Sylvester J. Nepper, at St. Augustine's Catholic Church. She and Sylvester lived in Schuyler all their married lives, most of those years in a home they built with the help of her brother, Edwin, and carpenter father-in-law, John B. Nepper, on 18th St. Edith was mother to Monica (Matt) Swanson, Veronica Nepper (Michael Helgeson) , and Cynthia (George) Lower. In their youth, Edith was active in her daughters' activities as a 4-H leader, CCD instructor, and band parent. She was a childcare provider for over 40 years, caring for over 100 children in her cumulative years. She was a church organist for over 50 years with St. Augustine's/Divine Mercy Parish and counted church offering monies up until her recent trip. Edith was a talented musician. Her piano and organist services were requested by brides, nursing homes, funeral directors, and priests. She was a county commissioner, and volunteered her time for voter elections and blood banks. In 2006, the Nepper family was named Knights of Columbus Family of the Year. In recent years, Edith became quite active at Schuyler's Senior Center. She enjoyed playing cards and dominos and sharing the day with others from the community. She particularly enjoyed water aerobics and water walking. Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester in 2018; her parents, Edwin and Alice Novotny; her brother, Edwin A Novotny,Jr, her sister-in-law, Janet Novotny, and her parents-in-law, John and Augusta Nepper. She leaves to mourn her passing her daughters; grandchildren, Spencer (Ruiying) Lower, Dylan (Taylor) Lower, Haley (Zach) Lower, Logan (Kaitlyn) Lower, and Evan Lower; great-grandsons, Jasper, Theodore, and Salem; and six step-grandchildren and their families. Edith is also survived by her nephews, nieces, and sisters-in-law; Delores (d. Eldon) Fricke and Loretta (Norbert) Ceicior.
