Mary McDill August 6, 1930 - February 11, 2023 Mary Lou Beran was born August 6, 1930, in Valley County, Nebraska, to Edward and Agnes Beran. She grew up on the farm near Ord and attended country school. Following her graduation from Ord High School in 1947, she attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. There, she met John (Jack) McDill and they married on August 28, 1950. They made their home in Ainsworth, NE and then moved to a small ranch near Custer, South Dakota. After Jack began work with the Farmers Home Administration, they made their homes all over the state, moving to Bison, Phillip, White River, and Canistota while raising three children. Once they arrived in Hot Springs in 1968, Mary declared she was "staying put," and she did, living in the same home until 2022. Mary enjoyed antiquing, gardening, spending time with her grands and great-grands, and working at her cabin near Custer (occasionally sitting on the porch for a minute or two between tasks). She was a member of the United Churches, Traveler's Club, Seeker's, and Knit Wits. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Jack, son John (Dodie), grandsons Jason and Levi, her parents, and in-laws. She is survived by her daughter; son; 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Chamberlain McColley's Funeral Home in Hot Springs, SD. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 16, 2023, at United Churches in Hot Springs, SD with committal services following at Custer Cemetery in Custer, SD.
